In August 1961, after Jânio Quadros resigned the Presidency of Brazil, all of a sudden, Vice-President João Goulart's young wife Maria Thereza becomes a new sensation. She was the youngest and most beautiful First-Lady ever to walk into the political scene. Magazines of all sorts splashed Maria Thereza Goulart's faces all over... Brazil had a young President with an even younger First Lady. Some went as far as to say Thereza was more beautiful than Jacqueline Kennedy the famous US First Lady.
Maria Thereza was really good-looking in an age where beauty contests were really in fashion.
The first children were shown on every possible magazines in the country; earlier in 1961 Manchete had already realized it had excellent cover-material in the young President's children.
